Birds of Paradise, Singapore

RATING: ★★★☆ – VERY GOOD   |   PRICE: $$ - MODERATE

Driven by the need to escape the scorching mid-day Singapore sun, Singaporeans have become connoisseurs of high-quality artisan ice cream; the small handful of homegrown ice cream and gelato brands have pushed international big boys into a tight, almost non-existent corner.

Focused on botanical flavor combinations, the gelato found at Birds of Paradise is rich, creamy and aromatic. The unique combinations like Strawberry Basil and White Chrysanthemum were just flavor bombs jam-packed into creamy cold morsels of joy, pure perfection if not for the thyme flavored wafer cone whose intense thyme flavors masked some of the delicate nuances of the fine gelato.

Regardless of this little drawback, Birds of Paradise does serve scoops in cups instead of cones and this coupled with their generous portion sizes and perfect prices makes Bird’s of Paradise easily one of the best homegrown gelato brands on the island.
