Sawadee Thai Cuisine, Singapore

In Singapore there are two types of Thai restaurants; there are the fine dining Thai restaurants which feature exquisite cuisine, impeccable service, and lush interiors and on the other extreme end of the spectrum there are, what is essentially, street food stalls masquerading as restaurants where the food is cheap, the interiors are dirty and the service is nonexistent.

Sawadee is neither of the two, it is a restaurant which bridges the gap between the fine dining and street food experience; where the cuisine is delicious, the ambiance is comfortable and the value is acceptable. The menu is traditional if not a little boring, with bog-standard dishes like the tom yum gong and the pad Thai taking center stage, however, it veers off to offer a myriad of delicious Yams (Thai salads) and baked fish cakes which we found irresistible across multiple visits. The restaurant may not be pushing any culinary boundaries but it is definitely a safe choice and a great Thai addition to the Bugis district in Singapore.
