Watanabe Coffee, Singapore

RATING: ★☆☆☆ – SATISFACTORY |   PRICE: $$ - MODERATE

A true Japanese coffee shop has many distinctive features; smooth and swift service, an unobtrusive seating arrangement, musty smells from the smoking corner tucked away in the back, delicious semi-prepared menu items which put brunch places to shame and of course perfectly siphon brewed coffee. In fact, it would be difficult to replicate such characteristics if the place does not evolve naturally.

Watanabe Coffee is a pseudo Japanese style coffee shop which, unfortunately, fails to achieve the essence of the typical coffee shop in japan. Service was excruciatingly slow, the beverages underwhelming and the entire space felt artificial with faux-coffee paraphernalia shewed all over the unwelcoming interiors. The saving grace of the entire experience was the pancakes which were decent but not mind-blowing.
